For two days (27 -28 November 2000), Westlife visit Singapore to promote their second album, Coast To Coast. Their schedule were pretty hectic. But, Mark Feehily (19), Kian Egan (19), Nicky Byrne (21), Bryan MacFadden (19), and Shane Filan (20) had three important shows to attend: Westlife Asia Cup 2000 (a football match), press conference and mini showcase took place after they do Q & A with 150 journalist all over Asia and Australia (Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, India, and, of course Indonesia).
First day, Westlife has to accept the football challenge against their fans joined with local celebrity like MTV VJ KC and Perfect 10 DJ, Daniel Ong. Joining the team, also group's tour manager Anto Byrne. Each team contains 7 players. Held in Singapore Indoor Stadium, the 2500 audiences kept screaming and cheering the match. To open the game, Shane and friends sang a quick acapella More Than Words.
Then, the battle began including pulling each other's shorts and provoking a fight. Three yellow card issued and one red card. Two for Nicky. That means one red for him. One for Kian. Though Nicky got the most card, he's the first one making the score and, also, do a suicide goal. Kicking the ball for the defendant team. He got kicked out from the game but back again to keep the match interesting. The crowd went wild when he came back again.
Westlife team first to get the score but afterwards, the score is even. 10 -10. Penalty kick is executed. Asia United, helped by Nicky and Bryan who moved to the team before the first half ended, came out as the winner with score 11 -12.
Before the show ended, poster and football with the group's autograph are given free to lucky winner through a lucky draw.
The press conference held at Zouk three hours after the game. A sudden downpour made the grand entrance planned by Westlife had to be cancelled. Except for Bryan whose itchy fingers saw him playing with his name tag and reporters' tape recorders, the rest concentrating on the questions fired by journalists flown in from around the region. Questions are varied from the album making, the incident between Mark and Christina Aguilera, Westlife vs Spice Girls, and their sexual fantasies.
After that, they performed in front of 500 fans, singing 4 songs: I Lay My Love On You (2nd single), What Makes A Man, Close, and My Love. The awards presentation from 10 countries became the show closing. Indonesia gave 20 platinum awards for Westlife album and 5 platinum awards for Coast To Coast. Although tired, they still had time to do a quick meet and greet with regional fans before going back to their hotel.
The next day, the boys stayed at their hotel to do interviews. They really didn't have free time because midnight that day, they had to check in to the airport. Back to their home.
